Dear Friends

I don’t have much local news for you this month as I have been lucky enough to have been to Andalucia on a tour with the local Arts Society. It was amazing and lived up to my expectations. Lots of beautiful Morrish architecture and beautiful gardens and cities. The only down side was the temperatures, 28C+ every day 🥵. Once again, I marvelled at the lack of litter to be found on European city streets. Another positive experience was the speed we got through the new security system at passport control in Malaga, lots of helpful attendants to help us get through the process. Now it is back to the normal routine of enjoying living in Barnard Castle.
Looking forward to the October meeting with Gordon Hetherington, who will be talking about Gertrude Bell, the Uncrowned Queen of Iraq. Gertrude Bell is one of the women travellers/explorers featured in a favourite book of mine, ‘The benefits of a good thick skirt’
Looking forward to catching up with you all.
Bye for now
Julie
