Once again after a summer hiatus the Android Phone group faithfuls gathered with a couple of new people swelling the ranks.
We looked at a number of subjects which included:
- With the advent of the phasing out of standard landlines mobiles are now becoming the only home phone. We went through how to switch off the sound on notifications etc. and reduce the ringing sound.
- The need for basic phone security was reiterated with pin numbers and other measures discussed.
- How to switch on WiFi calling was run through for mobiles at home.
- Latest scams were discussed. LinkedIn offer of a job and the AI generated conversation bot that claims it is phoning about mis-sold car finance.
- Suspected Spam / Potential Fraud – phones now identify potential calls that may be scams. We looked at blocking then deleting them from the call log. If number not identified and not marked as spam using websites such as ”who called me” are useful.
The next meeting will look more closely at Settings and also what criteria should you use for selecting a new phone.
