Playing board games with our friendly group, in the pub on a Monday afternoon, is always entertaining and sometimes (slightly) competitive. With reduced numbers in October we made up two tables, both playing 'Ticket to Ride'. This was a refresher for novices and experts alike in preparation for the proposed "Board Games Rally" at a future u3a social event.
'Ticket to Ride' is a strategic travel game, fun to play and it tests your geographical awareness of the rail destinations in America or Europe. You don't discover the winner until the final count; this time Jane and Hazel were winners on their respective tables. The first table then played 'Rummikub', using numbered tiles to lay down runs and groups, similar to the card game 'Rummy', and Hazel won.
The second table played 'Carcassonne' which involves building out around a river landscape by placing cards to construct roads, settlements or monasteries. The scoring system is based on the players' little figures (meeples) claiming these and the territory around; Jane was declared the winner. As always it was an enjoyable afternoon of board games. New players and suggestions for new games are always welcome !
