In the Climate Solutions Group we are constantly looking for ways to recycle things and I thought you might be interested in a recent project of mine. My daughter said she had found some material in her loft that her mother-in-law had given her and did I want it.
It appeared to be a good quality reversable upholstery material and I said I would take it, as I was wanting some new curtains in one of our bedrooms. When I opened it up, I found it was a series of pieces of different sizes. Not daunted, I decided to cut it all into the same size pieces and using half on the green side and half on the cream side and sew them together alternating the colours.

I then discovered that it was virtually impossible to sew the squares together to match exactly, so decided to offset them, which worked very well, but I made sure the edges met exactly when drawn together.
I had just enough material to make them reach half way between the window ledge and the radiator. I then used the linings and tape from the existing curtains, so making them totally recycled. I was very pleased with the result and had enjoyed the whole process of making them, though not the mess on the dining room table and frayed threads on the floor for several weeks whilst doing so.
